Steve Mamanella connects the dots of his life in his book “Providential: An Autobiographical Exploration of the Gift of God’s Providence” (En Route Books and Media, 2021).

And he does it at times with brutal honesty and frequent good humor, detailing his triumphs and struggles as well as his joys and sorrows. All the while, he recognizes the hand of God in action.

So why should Amen Peoria readers care? First, because it’s just a good read by a guy who loves Jesus. Second, Steve was a public figure of sorts in the Peoria area in the 1990s, serving as the first full-time, non-clergy spokesman for the Catholic Diocese of Peoria.
