Dream Center to give 2,000 backpacks with school supplies away Saturday

PEORIA—Volunteers are needed for Dream Center Peoria’s Backpack Peoria this Saturday.

Helpers are still needed for a variety of tasks:

• Setup and teardown
• Parking
• Translation (English/Spanish)
• Pedestrian patrol
• Greeters

About 2,000 backpacks filled with school supplies will be distributed at what DCP calls its biggest event of the year, held since 2002. There will also be free haircuts as well as medical and dental examinations.

Fundraisers

Dream Center Peoria will have its annual golf outing at 8:30 a.m. Aug. 11 at Mount Hawley Country Club. The cost is $165, including a round of golf and lunch. 

Youth

Trail Life USA and American Heritage Girls are holding open houses from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Aug. 18 at Roanoke Apostolic Church, 1570 County Road 1300 North, Roanoke. The two are Christian-based programs that promote godly leadership and character qualities. Trail Life, which includes outdoor and service activities, is for boys ages 5-17. American Heritage Girls offers service opportunities and outdoor adventure for girls ages 5-18.
